Little Old Man

This little Spitz was walking very slowly with two ladies near to the port of Monaco. I asked if I could take his photograph and we talked about him. His owner told me, amidst tears, that he is 15 and not well and she really doesn't know how much longer he will live. She adores this little dog. The sadness is our dogs normally go before us but then if we went first, what would happen to them? We can only take joy in the short time we are privileged to have them.

Oh that is so sad. I had my pekingese for 17 years and after two years I still miss her. I find people who love their animals are kind and caring people in all areas of life.

This is the sad part of having animals in your life. It's such a joy to have them but when they become ill and die...oh...it is indeed quite hard.

I wish this lady all the best and I hope he goes without any pain, knowing that he is loved.

This makes me want to cry! I had to put one of my Pekes down last year, and I waited too long. I should have done it sooner because he really suffered. It is a huge source of bewildered amusement in my family that, when the vet offered to take a last photo of us together, I cuddled him and smiled. What can I say? I'm a smiley person and I was happy to have that final minute with him.
