Dog walker

A dog walker in Nice last night.  She has seven dogs in her charge, although two are hidden.  I nearly got run over!

Maggie

Maggie is a Red and White Irish Setter who lives in Monaco and loves pulling funny faces!

Choupinette

This is Choupinette, aged 11 and blind in one eye. She is a 'Royal Bourbon' - a breed from the Isle of Reunion, from where she was rescued and brought into France for adoption.  Horrifically dogs are sometimes used as shark bait on the Isle of Reunion - yes, a hook fixed, often through the nose and thrown in the sea.

Clumber

This is a Clumber spaniel at the Monaco Dog Show earlier in the year.  Clumbers are, I believe, the heaviest of all the spaniels.

Not a breed we see often n the south of France although there is one who lives in Menton.

Skull and Crossbones

Dachshunds, especially wire-haired dachshunds, are too adorable, aren't they?  This one was at Monaco Dog Show earlier this year.  He looks as if he wishes his owner would hurry up with whatever he is doing.   Note the skull and crossbones leash.

Macho Dog

He looks fierce, doesn't he?  As for the hole in one ear and the chunk out of the other one, perhaps he was used as a fighting dog in the past.  Totally illegal, of course, and despicable. He was peering over a wrought iron fence in Gorbio village.

Get me outta here!

Get me outta here!  Sometimes I call in to a dog grooming salon in Menton - the owner is a friend of mine - and so of course I have to snap the dogs.  This little bichon has just been bathed and is waiting to be dried.

This is Helline, a Lagotto Romagnolo, an Italian water-dog breed.

Akita in a bag

We met this tiny Pomeranian a couple of weeks ago, when his owner posed him alone in Place Massena, Nice. Here he is being walked (carried!) home. He's called Akita.  His owner has a sense of humour!
